Congrats are in order to 2b Albert Cartwright, of the Philadelphia Phillies organization, and LHP Hamilton Bennett, of the New York Mets organization, on their recent selections to play for Great Britain in the upcoming World Baseball Classic!
Albert, originally from Nassau, Bahamas, missed the entire 2011 season after suffering as torn achilles tendon on the 2nd day of Spring Training. He bounced back beautifully in 2012 to have a solid season for the Class High-A club in which he led the team in 3B (8), was 2nd in SB (16), 3rd in H (104) & R (60), 4th in 2B (20), TB (155) & AB (404), and 5th in RBI (40). Albert was drafted by the New York Mets in 2006 but chose to attend Polk State College. He was then drafted by the Houston Astros in 2007 and signed.
Hamilton enjoyed another stellar season for the Mets as a lefty specialist who earns his living coming out of the bullpen. In 2012, “Ham Bone” went 7-2, 2.55 ERA in 41 games. In 60.0 IP, he had 54 SO and 17 BB, with a BAA of just .227. He was originally drafted by the Mets in 2010 out of Tennessee-Wesleyan, where he had the distinction of being just the 20th player in NAIA history to throw a perfect game.
